Peak Flown From Afar
Peak Flown From Afar, located near the Lingyin Temple, is the rare ancient grottoes art treasures in Jiangnan area, which can be comparable to the Dazu grottoes in Sichuan province. It has attracted numerous travelers from home and abroad to have a visit there, among which including the famous poet Sudongpo who had described the beautiful Peak Flown From Afar in his poems.
Peak Flown From Afar belongs to the limestone in terms of geologic structure and it is different from the surrounding mountains because of its odd rocks, ancient trees and secluded caves. There is a ligong Tower in the cave of the Longhong Cave of the Peak Flown From Afar, which is the only one Ming Dynasty Tower existing nowadays. It is featuring six sides and six floors, simplicity in structure and unique style and it is made of stone. There is also a CuiWei Pavilion in the middle hillside of the Peak Flown From Afar, small and exquisite, with the mountain path winding around. It looks simple but elegant among the pines of old-growth trees, and it is built to memorize Yufei, a hero in South Song Dynasty. In the cliff of the caves and the creeks of the Peak Flown From Afar, you will also find various Stone Carvings from the Five Dynasties to the Song Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty with a total number of more than 470 (among which 335 is well preserved).
